History of Easter

The most important date in the Christian Calendar, Easter marks the resurrection of Christ, three days after he was crucified. Though the date is not only significant for Christians as Easter falls at a time of the year known as the spring equinox when the length of the nights in the Northern Hemisphere becomes identical to the length of the days. As such it has been celebrated throughout human history as a moment of rebirth and renewal in the calendar with many of these ancient rituals incorporated into our modern celebrations.
